A lot of you guys have been asking me about my afternoon Matcha drink…
Just kidding, only a few friends have pinged me asking for the recipe after sharing a picture of it on my stories- I just HAD to start the blog like that because my husband LOVES to poke fun at the cheesy influencer openers we hear daily on social media… it made me chuckle…
Anyway! In all seriousness, one of my favorite new routines includes an afternoon “tea break”. Depending on the day, temperature, schedule, I usually make something at home (with the occasional outing to a local coffee shop with exquisite tea options like Hyperion in Downtown Fredericksburg). 🌱
This little green drink is a delicious way to recharge and give my body some serious love at the same time. Not only does it taste amazing, but it’s packed with so many benefits. Plus, it’s super customizable! So whether you’re into almond milk, oat milk, or you love a rich, creamy breve (half-and-half), I’ve got you covered. Let’s get into the details of my daily matcha latte routine, because trust me, once you try it, you’ll be hooked!
Why I Love This Matcha Latte (and You Will Too)
First off, let’s talk about matcha. You’ve probably heard that it’s a superfood, but what does that ACTUALLY mean? Matcha is powdered green tea that comes from grinding whole tea leaves. That means when you drink it, you’re getting all the benefits of the entire leaf — antioxidants, chlorophyll, and L-theanine, which promotes a calm focus without the jitters. It’s the perfect pick-me-up for the afternoon when you need energy but don’t want that 3 PM crash.
To make it EXTRA green? I add some greens powder for that extra boost of vitamins and minerals, and I always make sure to include collagen powder for its awesome skin, hair, and joint benefits. It’s a great way to turn a regular matcha into a full-blown wellness drink.
I’m going to walk you through my go-to recipe, and trust me, it’s AH-MAY-ZZZINNGGG!
My Super Green Matcha Latte Recipe (Hot or Iced)
I wont make you scroll through 20 pages of my whole life story to find the recipe. Let’s dive right in!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp Matcha powder (make sure it’s good quality!) I use THIS one from Amazon.
- 1 tsp Greens powder (I love adding this for an extra health boost, but optional if you’re not into it – it will add a more “earthy flavor”)
- 1 scoop Collagen powder (I use unflavored so it doesn’t mess with the taste)
- 1-2 tsp Honey (or Maple Syrup if you prefer!)
- 1 cup Almond Milk (you could swap for oat milk or half and half if you’re feeling fancy)
- Ice (if making it iced)
Instructions:
- Dissolve the Honey: Okay, this is key. If you’re making your matcha iced, always dissolve the honey in a little bit of warm water or milk first. This helps it mix in smoothly. You don’t want honey clumps in your cold drink — trust me, this little step is a game-changer.
- Mix the Matcha: This depends on the kind of matcha you buy. Some can go directly into the milk, some may need to be mixed in a Tbs of water first to make a “shot”. If yours is the latter like mine, In a bowl, add the matcha powder and a bit of water. Whisk it vigorously until it’s nice and frothy. I use a frother we got on Amazon and it does the job well. You can also use a fork or whisk.
- Greens and Collagen: Add your greens powder and collagen powder into the matcha mixture, and give it a quick stir. This is where the magic happens! The greens powder gives you a boost of micronutrients (hello, vitamins and minerals), and the collagen supports your skin, joints, and hair.
- Warm Your Milk: If you’re going hot, warm up your almond milk (or whatever milk you prefer) in a saucepan or microwave. I got this milk foamer for Christmas and it is my right hand man for these drinks. If you’re making it iced, just skip this step. Pour your warm milk (or cold milk for iced) into the matcha mixture, and stir to combine.
- Pour Over Ice (if iced): If you’re doing an iced version, pour the matcha mix over ice and top it off with the honey-water mixture. Stir it all up and get ready to sip sip!
- Sweeten: If you need a little extra sweetness, feel free to add more honey or maple syrup. I like to keep it just a touch sweet, but it’s totally up to you.
Hot or Iced? Your Choice!
Both hot and iced versions of this latte are incredible, but it all depends on the vibe you’re going for. Hot matcha lattes are cozy and comforting, while iced matchas are so refreshing, especially if it’s a warm day.
I make mine iced most of the time, but on chilly days, there’s nothing better than sipping on a warm, frothy matcha latte as an afternoon treat.
The Health Perks of My Matcha Latte
This isn’t just a tasty drink — it’s a powerhouse of goodness for your bod! Here’s why you should start drinking it too:
- Matcha: Packed with antioxidants, matcha is great for boosting metabolism, improving focus, and giving you sustained energy. No crashes here!
- Collagen: Collagen helps with skin elasticity, joint health, and even digestion. It’s one of those beauty secrets that shows up on the inside and outside!
- Greens Powder: An easy way to get your daily serving of veggies and micronutrients. It’s loaded with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium and iron.
- Honey: A natural sweetener with antibacterial properties. It’s a way healthier alternative to refined sugars, and it adds a nice smooth sweetness to your latte.
The Macros: How Does This Latte Stack Up?
Let’s talk numbers for a sec — I count macros and this was important to ensure it fit in my daily calculations. Here’s an average breakdown (obviously, your numbers will vary depending on what ingredients you use, but this is a good estimate!):
- Calories: 100-150 per latte (depending on the milk and sweetener you choose)
- Protein: 15-20 g per latte (thanks to the collagen powder and milk)
- Fat: 4-6g (if you’re using almond milk). This will obviously vary depening on milk choice.
- Carbs: 10-15g (depends on your sweetener)
- Vitamins: Extra doses of vitamin C, vitamin A, calcium, and magnesium, plus antioxidants galore!
The Cost Breakdown (Because We All Love Saving Money)
- Matcha powder: About $0.50 per serving (a little goes a long way!)
- Collagen powder: Around $1.00 per scoop
- Greens powder: Roughly $0.50 per serving
- Milk: Around $0.40 for a cup (depending on what type of milk you use)
- Honey: $0.10 for a teaspoon
So overall, you’re looking at a $2-$3 latte (depending on your ingredients), which is WAY cheaper than buying one at Starbucks, which averages about $5-$6! Plus, you’re getting a nutrient-packed drink that’s custom-made and tailored to your exact preferences. AND the extra protein for my fitness girlies…
